Chapter 10: The Counterintuitive Muscles

Echoes
While connecting and building relationships has always been a strength for me, the tougher conversations–confronting what wasn’t working and asking for what I wanted in a way that strengthened a relationship–that is a counterintuitive muscle I’ve had to build. That’s what this song is about.

Echoes by Brandon Wilson and Eric Pedigo

The lightning and thunder
Crash through the night
Keep me awake now
And I can’t get my mind to let go of the truth
It ain’t a nightmare it’s me and it’s you
Working it through

It’s not that it’s over
It’s just something new
I have to wonder
If I’ve been selfishly holding onto
The very familiar and comfortable tune
From my youth

The echoes of your last few words
Still ring in my head
I’m not sure which is worse
Staying here instead
Of leaving our cocoon
When we both know
It’s time to move

Stuck in a canyon
Of all that we knew
Circles around us
And I can’t make out what we’re trying to do
I’m getting lost in the ways we used to
It’s like glue

The echoes of your last few words
Still ring in my head
I’m not sure which is worse
Staying here instead
Of leaving our cocoon
When we both know
It’s time to move
