chapter 19:
the handcar of growth

Handcar
This song is based on a few stories from people I know who felt they should embody getting comfortable being uncomfortable–always pushing, taking on more, and most of it new to them. And, in a short time, discovered that was unsustainable. This song is about just that.

Handcar by Brandon Wilson

before she knew it her phone hit five
she turned it off before it chimed
took a breath and rubbed her eyes
just one more of them sleepless nights

on her mirror she’d hung these words:
settle into the discomfort
though she’d tried it hadn’t worked
in her mind, her thoughts they twirled

she pulled into work by eight
stopped five times before she reached the gate
more challenges on her plate
how much discomfort can she take?

if only there was a respite from
pushing harder on every front
another question she hadn’t touched
stacked up with the other ones

press the lever down
try something out
break new ground

the other side now
surround yourself
with your familiar sounds

 this is how
life rebounds and growth abounds

break new ground

the other side now
surround yourself
with your favorite sounds

 this is how
life rebounds and growth abounds
