chapter 22:
Make your life richer
Both Things
I was speaking with a colleague, stuck in a contradiction (I really don’t remember the specific context), when she stated: “Both things can be true.” And she was so right. I got off the call and immediately wrote this song. And it’s apt for this chapter–we may define ourselves as an executive, but we also have a family, and enjoy being active. And listening to music. All of those things can be true. And the more we embrace all of those elements, the more full our lives can be.
Both Things by Brandon Wilson
She says we should grab drinks
After work we can meet
Right up at the bar
Next to the grocery
I finish my whiskey
As she comes in smiling
Thirty minutes late
I can’t keep a straight face
Both things can be true
I’m annoyed
And I love you
I’m annoyed
And I love you
I’m annoyed
And I love you
She leaves her dishes in the sink
Stacked like books she won’t read
Waits for mass to be critical
Before she acts on some things
Her work takes her south
So she heads on out
A few days alone
Makes for a quiet house
Both things can be true
I’m glad you’re gone
I miss you
I’m glad you’re gone
I miss you
I’m glad you’re gone
I miss you
She stumbles in
Quarter past ten
Leaves her bags by the door
And she slips into bed
I’m tired as hell
I know I’ll sleep well
After she tells me
Everything
Both things can be true
Nothing’s certain
I’ll always love you
Nothing’s certain
I’ll always love you
Nothing’s certain
I’ll always love you
