chapter 23:
be your best boss

A Little Space
I wrote this song for a friend who was going through a tough time. As I wrote this chapter, it struck me that what I wanted to give my friend was exactly the way I’d want to be treated myself (we do tend to treat others as we want to be treated!)–if I were my own best boss during a rough time, it’s exactly what I’d do.

A Little Space by Brandon Wilson

My friends they tell me
You’ve been trying
To leave

That you’re scared to
Step into something new
After years of saying there’s nothing to do

So you stick it out
Shutting your mouth

You’ve given it so much time
You’ve grown wrinkle lines
All around the corners of your weary eyes

Let’s drive out
Of this town

We will head
Way out west

And we’ll go
Get lost up the coast

I’ll buy the first drink
Play your wing man

You go swimming
I’ll stay on the land

Sometimes a little space
Is all it takes

Sometimes a little space
Is all it takes
