CHAPTER 3:
TRYING VS. BEING
Where I Been At
A song about the power of resistance, and how what we’re resisting has the power to overtake so much of our lives the more we push against it. This was written about how even the mention of a word or person or work can trigger us into an overblown reaction (especially when we’re trying to act like everything is okay…).
Where I Been At by Brandon Wilson
The world is closin’ in
Or maybe it’s my head tightenin’
Catch myself lookin’ for exits
Every room I step in
I been hedgin’ my bets
In every conversation
In as few words as I can
I try to get in and out of it
So I say:
”I’m fine;
Life’s good;
Work has been a movin’ target…”
And just like that:
Strap in
We’re on a rocket ship
To where I been at
Don’t want to be that one guy
First to speak and always to gripe
“So you’ve had a bad day?
Let me tell you about mine…”
So I say:
”I’m fine;
Life’s good;
Work has been a movin’ target…”
And just like that:
Strap in
We’re on a rocket ship
To where I been at
One word is all it takes
For the flood of all that’s been
Said and done
Come rushin’ back
That’s where I been at
