Chapter 9:
A Tale of two Henrys
Vested Interest
Sometimes what most holds us back from the opportunities before us is the habits we created when so much of our life was different. This is a song (written with my good friend, Eric Pedigo) about how those habits keep us up on our tippy-toes, too afraid to kick off and swim into the deep end.
Vested Interest by Brandon Wilson and Eric Pedigo
I’ve tried once twice three times to be
Stronger than I in moments seem
Like when I
Told you I wanted to leave
So I stood turned and packed all my things
Walked through the door looked down the street
When I freeze
Stay a couple more weeks
I’ve said it eight nine ten times or more
The second I know I’ll stand up for sure
But I don’t
So I watch as the scene it unfolds
As the audience
To the life I been living
It’s common sense
To make it all different
But these habits
They’ve a vested interest in me
So I’ve pushed pulled pried at the seams
Trying to rip out the thread that’s tied me
To the three
Shy hesitant weak
I’ve looked in, out, and all the way round
Trying to find that something that’s holding me down
I don’t know how
Cuz it don’t make a sound
As the audience
To the life I been living
It’s common sense
To make it all different
But these habits
They’ve a vested interest in me
